MONROE,
La.—A week after the ULM baseball team collected hundreds of pounds of food and
hundreds of dollars for the Northeast Louisiana Food Bank, the Warhawks will
once again go to bat for hunger when they play host to Bossier Parish Community
College at 2 p.m. on Sunday at Warhawk Field.
Instead
of charging admission, the Warhawks are asking fans to bring a donation of
canned goods or non-perishable items with original labels in place, or
cash. For more information about the Food Bank of Northeast Louisiana,
visit www.fbnela.org.
The
Warhawks handled their business on the field last Sunday defeating
Arkansas-Monticello 12-5 behind a rounded offensive attack that saw six players
record a pair hits.Ben Soignier and
Josh Chappell paced ULM each driving in three runs on a pair of hits.
Five
ULM pitchers combined for the winning effort led by scoreless outings from
Scott Stephen, Devin Pourciau and Derek Ward.Ward, ULM’s closer last season, struck out four of the six batters he
faced, while Stephen fanned three over the first two innings of the game.
In addition to the canned food drive, the
Warhawks will maintain their tradition of donating blood at the end of fall
practice. ULM’s Fifth Annual Maroon & Gold Blood Series is set for
Oct. 22, 24, 26-28 with the losing team of the best-of-five series donating
blood to an area blood bank.
Teams are allowed to play a total of 56 games
during the fall and spring season. However, games played in the fall do
not count to the team’s overall record. The Warhawks have 54 games
scheduled in the spring beginning with Northwestern State on Feb. 20 in the
first game of the ULM Warhawk Classic.
