MONROE, La.—A
battle of Sun Belt Conference leaders is set to take place this weekend at
Warhawk Field as ULM
hosts Florida Atlantic in a key three-game baseball series.
ULM (14-8, 7-2 Sun Belt) enters the weekend slightly behind Florida Atlantic
(16-6, 6-1) in the conference standings due to winning percentage, but are tied
with the Owls when it comes to comparing wins and losses in the league.
First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Friday night, 4:00
p.m. Saturday evening and the series concludes at 12:00 p.m. on Sunday
afternoon.
The series features two of the premier hitting teams in the
conference with the Owls leading the league in home runs and ranking second in
batting average and runs scored while the Warhawks are fourth in homers,
batting average and runs scored.
The Warhawks will turn to a pair of seniors to start and
close out the series on the mound. The
duo of Jared Jennings (2-2, 3.77) and Josh Lett (4-1, 2.16) has combined for
five of ULM’s seven Sun Belt victories and has a joint ERA of 3.07 in their six
league starts.
ULM has been consistent in all three
phases of the game during its first nine league tilts of the season. The Warhawks lead the league in fielding
percentage (.978), double plays turned (12), saves (3) and hits (110) while
ranking second in runs scored (75) and fifth in ERA (6.19).
Florida Atlantic enters the series riding a seven-game win
streak following a sweep of Middle Tennessee last weekend and mid-week
victories over New Jersey Institute of Technology, Rutgers
and Cornell. Owls’ slugger Mike McKenna is the reigning Collegiate
Baseball and National Baseball Writers Association National Player of the Week
after hitting seven home runs last week.
